How Khakis Killed my Wardrobe

If you know me, you know I’ve never been a fan of earth tones. I never wore much brown growing up and I didn’t care for beige either. My few experiences with khakis were awful and a stigma about brown clothing has been in my mind since then.

Lime Green & Khaki Team uniform and khakis as part of my first job's work uniform covered in popcorn oil. No wonder I hate them.

So I boycotted brown and as a result, my wardrobe consists of many black skirts and dress pants.I'm starting to feel rather drab and emo, even if I wear bright colors with them.
I made the decision yesterday that I was going to remedy this by going to Kohl’s and putting together an outfit of earth tones. I looked at some of their pieces online and got some ideas, even picked out a pair of brown shoes on Payless’ website. I also wanted some mother daughter time so my mother and I meandered around Kohl’s for over half an hour and what did I get?
So cute and warm and in one of my favorite colors: burgundy. What? It’s not brown? Oh, yea. Guess not. But I snagged this $58.00 cardigan for $23.00! Yea… I know it’s not brown, but I’m getting to that!
Since Kohl’s was a dry hole, I conned my mother into tagging along with me to JCPenney. I never go there, but the last time I did go, I saw some skirts that I adored and knew there was at least one in earthy colors.
The skirts I had in mind were out of my budget. I did find a beige skirt I liked and found a top to go with it. Both pieces for $45 and I saved over $31 with the sales and whatnot. I was feeling pretty proud of myself until I was showing it off to my husband and realized I had forgotten something. Shoes. I have two pairs of shoes in the realm of brown. Neither of them will work with this at all.
I did manage to put this outfit together so I hope it turned out okay. The top has black in it and the skirt has a black belt (not seen), so in theory the black tights and boots should go with it... right?

I am working on two other posts that I hope to have up this week that will be shorter. one that I was going to post last weekend (whoops) and another.
