My New Job

Because I have been asked numerous times and have only replied with a few lines, I want to elaborate on the response to the question “How do you like your new job?”
Short Answer: I like it.
Long Answer: There are things I am getting used to. This is more of an office manager/reception position as I am doing everything from ordering supplies to answering phones and overall doing everything that I can within the firm.
There are things that I am trying to get used to, but only a few things I don’t like.
Here are things that aren’t work-related that are hard to get used to:
1. Dressing professionally. While this is a bit of a pain, as I was used to wearing jeans and a t-shirt, it’s good because I feel better about myself and take a little more time to make myself presentable in the morning. It’s tough because I don’t have a large wardrobe, especially when it comes to nice clothes. Since I dropped some clothing sizes also, I have had to pick up essential pieces here and there, grabbing things when I can.
2. Getting paid every week. That’s right, every week. Before, I was every other week and Chris was the weeks in between. And it was balanced. Now I get my own check to cash every week plus a mileage reimbursement check each month for the 1 mile round trip I drive to the post office not quite every day. I just have to be careful not to get carried away, this is still money to pay the bills!
3. Getting asked the question “I/We am/are getting food from [insert eatery name here], would you like something too?” This is good because I have eaten foods from different places and things I haven’t gotten before (and they are delicious). This is bad because I’m spending money, keeping the same lunch in my desk drawer all week, and I’m going to eat my weight in potato soup with all these delicious delis in the area.
I think that about covers it for now. I find myself a bit nostalgic when I walk from my parking lot to the office each day and vice versa. As I look in the windows of the shops, I find myself missing New York. Huntington is not the big city, but the feel of walking down the street, especially in the cold surrounded by taller buildings, I feel like I’m back there, only wearing a skirt and not being trampled by herds of people.
I know this is hard to understand when you think about Huntington since there are so many negative thoughts of the town, but the little area that I see each day is very nice and I hope it spreads to more parts of the city.
I have another blog that I will be posting in the next couple of days as well (hopefully).
